Royal Wedding Workout

At the moment most people can’t stop talking about the royal wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton. So the question a lot of people are asking what / how did she get in shape for her wedding? There is no clear indication of a program that Kate was actually using but by all reports she has been doing a variety of running, rowing, weights and yoga.

So what I am going to do is break down an idea of what she MIGHT have done to get into shape.

Rowing: As she is currently a rower this will help with building back muscles and arm muscles but also would get the heart rate up. An intense 30 minutes of rowing can burn up to 300 calories.

Running: This is another form of cardio exercise which would help with her fat burning. The best way would be to do interval training which is to work at 80 – 90% of your maximum and then 60 – 70% of your maximum. Which should be done 3 – 4 times a week.

Weight training: Weights I believe for females is over looked in the whole fat burning process! Having toned muscles will help with overall body shape but will also help burn more calories. From the reports she was doing a circuit of 4 – 5 exercises and would rest after she had completed the 4-5 exercises,  I would recommend you would need to do this 3 times a week.

Yoga: Would be used as a cool down process and help with overall flexibility for kate. So not so much for her overall look but really important for overall well being for herself. This could be done almost every day.

So there is a lot on her plate and she also had a very active lifestyle and was always skiing, rowing and is always doing something. However when would have she started ramping up the training for the wedding? I would say for at least 6 months before and I would also imagine she was always training at a high intensity anyway. This means if you are planning a wedding and want to get into shape I would be giving yourself as much time as possible as weight loss and toning isn’t a short term thing.

There is another massive part of all this and that is her diet. Reports are saying that she is on the Dukan diet (which involves periods of low carbohydrate and then high periods). Now I wont go into details about the diet and nor do I recommend it but as I always recommend to clients is healthy eating with a focus on high protein with lower carbohydrates and the carbohydrates being lower GI.

So there is a lot going on here, and I know a lot of people don’t have as much time as Kate may have but if you are having or in a wedding there is no reason why you can achieve the same results with a limited schedule. I personally recommend getting a personal trainer if you lack motivation or not sure how to structure yourself in getting ready for your wedding or looking like this:
